Loads of Launched Loons (and Mice)

I met author Jennifer Lloyd at the launch for our book Looking for Loons this afternoon. She also launched her previously published book One Winter’s Night with illustrator Lynn Ray. She read both books to a full house and an audience of attentive children.

This is One Winter Night illustrator Lynn Ray, compositionally left-of-center (I hope she doesn’t mind.)

left to right: Christianne – owner and operator of Christianne’s Lyceum of Art and Literature, author Jennifer Lloyd, myself, illustrator Lynn Ray, and Dimiter – publisher, Simply Read Books.

As well as ten scarf-wearing mouse toys and a prop loon, there were loon cookies…

and mouse cookies…

A big thank you to Christianne for the fantastic venue and organising and to Dimiter for the launch.

Looking for Loons Review in Cottage Life

Looking for Loons review in Cottage Life

There’s a really nice review of Looking for Loons in the Winter 2007 issue of Cottage Life.

Author Jennifer Lloyd and illustrator Kirsti Anne Wakelin, both Canadians, create a sensory feast, from the sunlight on a pillow to the bang of a cast-iron pan on the stove.

-Liann Bobechko, Cottage Life, Winter 2007

The magazine is full of all things cottage as well as the 2007 photo contest winners – images of enviable times spent with family and friends, surrounded by nature.

Hycroft Event 2007

Hycroft Event 2007

Looking for Loons was one of 35 ’07 books presented by 30 authors/illustrators at last night’s Hycroft Event.

Hycroft Event 2007

The event was, as usual, very well attended.

Hycroft Event 2007

The very first time I attended the Hycroft Event, it was as a spectator a dozen years ago –  I was a college student in my first year of an illustration and design program. My high school English teacher invited me along because she had remembered that I had been interested in writing and illustration. I watched Nan Gregory launch her extraordinarily successful first book How Smudge Came. This year, Nan Gregory launched her newest book Pink and was the special guest speaker.

There were books for sale through Vancouver Kidsbooks and Looking for Loons was one of the titles that sold out.

A solo book launch is scheduled for Looking for Loons in December when the author, Jennifer Lloyd, will be in town (and I get to meet her in person for the first time). I’ll post more details when I know them.

Book Launch ~ Looking for Loons @ The Hycroft Event

I will be launching Looking for Loons, written by Jennifer Lloyd, (Simply Read Books pub.) at this year’s Hycroft Event. Every year The Vancouver Children’s Literature Roundtable puts on the Hycroft Event, an evening of book launches by CWILL BC members. This year, the authors and illustrators from around the province will launch their books published in 2007 from 6pm-9pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Hycroft Mansion (1489 Macrae – just east of Granville at 16th). This year’s special guest speaker is Nan Gregory.

There is no registration required, the event is free and light refreshments will be served after the launch. Books will be available for sale before and after the presentations.

Georgia Straight, October 11, 2007

Looking for Loons
was reviewed in the October 11-18, 2007 issue of the Georgia Straight along with a bunch of other great children’s books. Some of the other books were authored and illustrated by my fellow CWILL BC members.

To read the reviews, pick up this week’s Georgia Straight (October 11 – 18, 2007) or read them online.
